Subject: Amendments (Measure "A") and Updating of 1984 Del Monte Forest Area Land Use Plan

Reference: Our letter of December 8, 2000 and previous correspondence

Dear Jim and Nick,

We want to thank you both for taking time to meet with us on December 13th to discuss the reference letter and future County action on the amendments to the Del Monte Forest Area Land Use Plan (DMFLUP) and the expected new Pebble Beach Company applications for the expansion of resort facilities in Del Monte Forest.

We were pleased to learn that you believe the processing of amendments to the DMFLUP and zoning changes covered by the Measure "A" document must be completed by the County and California Coastal Commission before new or amended Pebble Beach Company development applications can be processed.

Since our meeting, Nick Chiulos has informed us that the County Board of Supervisors adopted the statement of votes cast for the November 7,2000, election, including Measure "A". We have learned that this adoption was covered by Item#31 on the Consent Calendar at the January 2, 2001 Board Meeting.

Nick also indicated that it will probably take another 90 days for the County Planning Department staff to complete documents that must be transmitted to the California Coastal Commission along with the Measure "A" amended DMFLUP.

During our December 13th meeting we discussed the need for rigid County control of all work associated with all, new Pebble Beach Company applications for development in the Forest.

As you know, we believe it is important that the County (not the applicant) select a new, different independent company to produce a completely new Environmental Impact Report on all, new or amended applications for expansion of hotel facilities, construction of a new golf course, employee housing, new lot subdivisions, and a new equestrian center. Public hearings and full public input on a new EIR is also critical.

Your continued cooperation in keeping our organization fully informed on all issues that involve the future of the Del Monte Forest is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

s/s Ted R. Hunter
s/s Carl E. Nielsen
