RE: Environmental status of Highway 68 application (PLN010347)

Dear Derinda:

The County has determined that the environmental impacts of the planned improvements to the intersection of Highway 68, Highway 1, and the 17-Mile Drive should most properly be analyzed as a part of the environmental impact report (EIR) for the Pebble Beach Company development proposal to implement Measure "A". This determination has been made as the proposed improvements are the first step in the accommodation of the additional traffic anticipated from Measure "A" implementation and therefor may reasonably be considered "growth inducing."

If there is a need to move more quickly with the Highway 68 project, the County is willing to consider reviewing it under a separate "stand-alone" EIR which would analyze the cumulative effects of the Highway 68 project as well as reasonably anticipated future projects, including Measure "A" implementation.

Sincerely,

/ss/

Thomas A. McCue
Senior Planner
